Women in STEM

As a woman in science, and one who was encouraged to pursue marine science by friends, family and teachers, Heenehan is involved in many efforts to encourage all students, but especially young girls, to pursue Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) fields. For her overall science communication and outreach efforts and her work in K-12 classrooms please visit: Outreach and Science Communication

Some of her efforts targeted towards girls and women in STEM include her involvement as a blogger for the Huffington Post Girls in STEM Initiative. Heenehan was recently named one of Skype’s 3 Women Changing the World Through Technology for her work especially that with the Skype in the Classroom program.  She is also involved in Females Excelling More in Math Engineering and Science (FEMMES) program at Duke University as a two-time participant in their Capstone Event.

For some of Heather’s take on women in science check out her quotes in the Carteret County News Times article on women in STEM.
